Stainless Steel Elegance: The Art of Sand Blasting for Seamless Tubes And Fittings

1. Sand Blasting Process

It also referred to as sand rolling or sand tumbling, is a surface treatment technology utilized for enhancing the appearance and durability of stainless steel fittings. This process involves the use of high-speed rotating abrasive media to impact the surface of stainless steel buttweld pipe fittings, resulting in cleaning, surface strengthening, and aesthetic improvements. Here is an optimized and detailed overview of the process flow:

(1) Cleaning: Before the sand tumbling process, the stainless steel surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to remove any oil, dirt, or rust.

(2) Sand Tumbling Equipment: It equip with a high-speed rotating shot blasting device, which will throw abrasive (such as iron balls, stainless steel balls, etc.) at high speed to the stainless steel fittingssurface.

(3) Abrasive Media Selection: Choose the right abrasive media based on the desired surface finish and the hardness of the stainless steel. Common media include steel shots, glass beads, or stainless steel pellets.

(4) Processing: Set the necessary process parameters such as the speed of the media, the amount of media to be used, and the duration of the tumbling process. Place the stainless steel parts into the machine and start the tumbling process. The abrasive media will clean and texture the surface of the parts.

(5) Post-Treatment Cleaning: Remove any residual abrasive media from the parts using appropriate cleaning methods.

(6) Final Inspection: Check whether the surface of the workpiece is uniform and defective, whether the measurement size meets the requirements, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and other performance tests can also be carried out.

2. Advantages

(1) High surface gloss: The surface gloss of stainless steel welding pipe fittings after sand tumbling is high, with a granular feel and is not easily scratched.

(2) Enhanced wear resistance and hardness: Sand tumbling can increase the wear resistance and hardness of the stainless steel surface and extend the service life of the workpiece.

(3) Removal of burrs and oxide scale: Sand tumbling can effectively remove burrs and oxide scale on the surface of stainless steel, making the edges and corners smooth.

3. Application areas

(1) Stainless steel pipe fittings: enhance their durability and aesthetics.

(2) Industrial equipment: improve the corrosion resistance and service life of equipment.

(3) Decorative materials: enhance their decorative effects.

4. How to choose the right abrasive?

(1) Hardness: To match the hardness of stainless steel weld pipe fittings, hard abrasives such as aluminum oxide are suitable for hard materials, and soft abrasives such as glass beads are suitable for soft materials or delicate processing.

(2) Shape: Spherical abrasives (such as glass beads or stainless steel shots) can provide more uniform impact and reduce the risk of scratches and surface damage, while sharp abrasives (such as aluminum oxide particles) can provide a rougher surface treatment effect.

(3) Size: Larger abrasives will produce a rougher surface, while smaller abrasives will produce a finer surface.

(4) Chemical stability: The chemical stability of the abrasive should be high to avoid chemical reactions with stainless steel during processing, affecting the surface quality and subsequent corrosion resistance.

(5) Environmental and health factors: Some abrasives (such as silica sand) may produce harmful dust, which poses a threat to the health of operators. Choosing environmentally friendly and low-toxic abrasives is very important to protect the health of operators.

(6) Cost-effectiveness: Consider the cost and service life of the abrasive and choose an abrasive with high cost performance.

(7) Recyclability: Metal abrasives such as steel shot and steel grit can be recovered and reused after use.
